Chorleywood Music Spring Concert 2023

January 2023 – Music from Movies & Musicals

Chorleywood Orchestra kicked off 2023 with a bang by performing two sold-out family concerts at the War Memorial Hall on Sunday 15th January on the theme of “Music from Movies and Musicals”.

Children and their parents were excited to hear the orchestra, in full fancy dress, perform music from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Encanto, Mamma Mia, ET, Pirates of the Caribbean and Frozen. Talented orchestra member Marianne Ryall, dressed as Queen Elsa, joined the orchestra to sing “Let It Go” and voiceover artist Carla Terry presented the show, which included a demonstration of all the instruments to the delight of the families.

Our conductor Daniel Hogan directed the concert in full ABBA costume, even using a tiny light saber as a baton! And some children had the opportunity to have a turn at conducting Pirates of the Caribbean. The two concerts sold out in a day and the orchestra are thrilled to hear that they inspired many children who attended the concerts to pick up instruments themselves.

December 2022 – Members of Chorleywood Orchestra entertain the Community

December was full of treats for groups from our local community. The month began with Chorleywood Jazz – our sister jazz band playing some Christmas jazz treats, with soloist Kirsty Ryall at the packed Chorleywood Village Night. The group drew in crowds of people and received huge cheers of support. As December progressed members of the orchestra were playing carols and Christmas music in our local care homes; Signature, Beaumont and Dapplemere alongside some incredible singers from Chorleywood Choral Society, Chorleywood Community Choir and Other Community Volunteers. The residents were singing along heartily and were thoroughly entertained by our performances.

If the care homes weren’t enough, our members went and supported events at local churches in Chenies, Watford and Rickmansworth by playing Christmas Carols at their fund-raising events including a the Watford foodbank at St Michael’s Church. Chorleywood Jazz Band meanwhile was fundraising for the local Christ Church Community Club at Beaumont Care Home to a packed home of residents and guests from the community, tapping their feet and loving the jazz sound!

We love to share our music with everyone, even if they can’t make it to our main concerts. Please don’t hesitate to contact christinedeeley@gmail.com if your local community project would appreciate some musical support.
